hmm. perhaps "Sustained Partnership" is a good term...and legal protections similar to those in marriage partnership are the answer - ?
I'm assuming one of Gail's killers was acquitted? I missed the news - perhaps I'll have time to do some news crusing this week....
Speaking of hate crime - I think this was also a sex crime - I truly think if Gail had the "equipment" she would have been brutally raped by these guys...then possibly murdered. As it was, she was horribly beaten to death - how stupid can people be not to call it a hate crime....this crime was not a dis-passionate hit-man mark, for cryin' out loud. I get so sick of injustice.
You bring up a good point in which I had never thought of in this way. I believe many of the women being raped and/or murdered in this country is a result of a person who hates women. Hence; This too I feel falls under the category of hate crimes. Regardless if the crime was gender related or sexual orientation related, I feel the offenders are about power and control.
